Preamble

What follows is a partial archive of the Method as it has been practiced in the field, transcribed from witness accounts, recovered photographs, and the few audio fragments that survived the second relocation.

It is offered without context, gloss, or apology. Those who require an explanation are not yet ready for one.

The Seven Tenets

As Spoken, As Written

What is held is not what is given. The Vessel does not contain the Approach; the Approach contains the Vessel.
The third step always contains the second. Do not attempt to skip ahead. The second step has been moved.
You may not bring a notebook into the second seminar. The notebook is the second seminar.
If the chair is warm, you have already started, and you are already behind.
All vehicles are inadmissible. This includes metaphor. This especially includes metaphor.
Wait for the second notification. The first notification is a courtesy and is not, in any meaningful sense, for you.
Stand differently. You will know which way.

The Archive

Eight Recovered Plates

Holiday Inn Express, Conference Room B. Date withheld. The whiteboard has been reconstructed from witness testimony and may not reflect the original diagram.

Daybreak. A diner. The fourth tenet is being demonstrated, though not directly. The pancakes are unrelated.

An unidentified Chevron. The hose was returned to the pump immediately afterward. The hose remembers nothing.

Walmart Supercenter, aisle 7. Towel selected at random, or so observers reported. The towel has since been returned.

Indoor pool deck, brand unknown. Notebooks were held above the waterline. Notes were taken but cannot be reproduced here.

Behind a strip mall. The cart was already there. The cart will be there again.

Office Depot, copy center. The tray is not empty. The tray has been emptied. These are not the same thing.

Big-box electronics retailer. One battery was held, briefly. Manufacturer redacted at the request of the manufacturer.

The Lexicon

A Working Vocabulary

The Vessel: See The Approach. The Vessel is not, and has never been, a container.
The Approach: The manner in which The Vessel is first observed. The Approach is observed only once; subsequent observations are something else.
Coordinate Drift: The natural softening of intent over distance. Coordinate Drift cannot be measured but is occasionally noticed.
The Soft Audit: An audit that does not produce findings. The absence of findings is itself the finding, but only retroactively.
The Eleventh Minute: A minute which is not the tenth, and which is not, despite its name, the eleventh.
Lateral Compliance: Agreement reached without the relevant parties having been informed. Highly stable. Cannot be revoked, only forgotten.
The Second Notification: The notification for which one waits. It does not arrive; it is recognized.
The Towel Test: A test that is not administered to the participant. The towel is what is being tested. (See Plate IV.)
